About Us
The Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood has been the pride and joy of De Funiak Springs since it's birth in the early 1900's. Through the years the building was used for a multitude of purposes and adapted to suit the needs of the community.
The Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood enabled De Funiak Springs to host cultural events and activities that drew crowds from all across the Southeast.
But in the 1970's, while a renovation project was underway, a hurricane swept through the area and destroyed the
main auditorium of the building. The decision was made to not rebuild. Ever since, De Funiak Springs has mourned the loss.
Festival of Trees
In 1972 the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood
was added to the
National Register of Historic Places. At the time the building was vacant, but is currently used to house the Walton County Chamber office and is used for community events such as festivals, art shows, weddings, and receptions.
In 2002 local residents decided it was time to take
back what was once ours. A group was formed to rebuild the auditorium. In June 2003 The Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood Foundation, Inc. was created as a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood. Currently efforts are being made to raise funds and rebuild this important treasure of our past and restore its role in our future.
